People affected by cancer or working in cancer services in Sheffield invited to free health and wellbeing day.
Wednesday 20th June 2018
People affected by cancer or working in cancer services in Sheffield have been invited to a free community health and wellbeing day.
The event takes place on June 27th from 10.30am to 1.30pm and will include information stalls from key support services in Sheffield.
There will also be a range of free activities for attendees to try; including fitness classes, table tennis, badminton and walking football, plus a soft play area for kids.
It is being held at the English Institute of Sport, which is operated by SIV – part of Sheffield City Trust – and will be run in partnership with the Macmillan Living With and Beyond Cancer team.
David Bly, Sports Programme and Engagement Manager at SIV, explained more about the event:
“The aim of the day is to help local people better understand all the fantastic services that exist within the city, that regardless of age, health or gender will impact their life in a positive way.
“We will have activities available for all ages and the market stands will provide information on a wide scale of different things.
“From the one on one support and health checks, to sporting activities and refreshments, the event will definitely be worth a visit.”
As part of the event, the Living With and Beyond Cancer team are inviting all people affected by cancer or working in cancer services in Sheffield to come and share their views on how they can shape services in the city to improve the patient experience.
Richard Metcalfe, Macmillan Programme Lead, The Macmillan Living With and Beyond Cancer programme, added:
“People living with and beyond cancer are at the heart of any decisions we make within the programme, so it’s essential their views are heard.
“Attending this event is a great opportunity for people in Sheffield who are affected by cancer or who work in cancer services to come along and share their opinions, as well as find out more about the range of support services available in the city.”
